What is Reflexology?....

Reflexology is a complementary therapy which works on the feet and/or the hands.  It may help to balance the whole body.

The human body is a delicately balanced machine, where everything works together for the benefit of all.  The balance of the body is maintained through a system of glands, organs, nerves and chemicals.  However...if one of these functions becomes unbalanced then the effects may be felt throughout the whole body.

Reflexology is a unique method of  using the fingers and thumbs to work upon and apply pressure to specific points on the feet and hands.  The effect of this pressure is unique to every person. A professionally trained Reflexologist may detect subtle changes in the reflex points and, by working on these points, may effect the corresponding organ or body system.

Reflexology is a gentle therapy which may be beneficial for many conditions.  These include

  • Back Pain
  • Migraine
  • Fertility Issues
  • Sleep Disorders
  • Hormonal Disorders
  • Digestive Disorders
  • Stress related conditions

Who can benefit from Reflexology?...

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and it may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.   During the one hour treatment the client reclines on a treatment bed or a reflexology chair, with their shoes and socks removed.  The therapist uses a smooth and systematic massage technique to stimulate the nerve endings in the feet.  This rhythmical touch may encourage deep relaxation which may allow the bodies own self healing powers to come into action.

How will I feel after a treatment?...

After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way.  Some people may have a sense of well-being and relaxation, a few people  may report feeling tearful or lethargic, this will pass and can be part of the healing process. It would be helpful to relay this information back to the therapist as it may show them how your body is reacting to the treatment.  They may then tailor a treatment plan for your specific needs.
